The happy couple, from the inside

Last week, we ran a picture of Clark Gable and Carole Lombard (along with Carole's mother) when they greeted the press not long after their wedding in March 1939 (http://community.livejournal.com/carole_and_co/68987.html). We discovered it was taken inside Lombard's house on 609 St. Cloud Road in Bel Air, as the couple's home in Encino was still being renovated.

Gable was already well acquainted with the St. Cloud house; he had spent plenty of time there during his three-year affair with Carole. (Lombard had moved there largely because of her relationship with Gable, believing its relative seclusion would be better suited for being with the still-married Clark than her former home on the western edge of Hollywood Boulevard.)
