As Carole Lombard films go, "Love Before Breakfast" (where she's shown above with Preston Foster) isn't especially memorable...but it compensates by offering arguably the most iconic image from any of her movies, that of the star sporting a black eye:

Now, a rare artifact from "Breakfast" is being auctioned at eBay -- a pressbook from Universal. Here's the cover:

(See the "fight card" reference, issued more than a year before Selznick-International used that angle for "Nothing Sacred"!)
Inside are ads, sheets full of press releases to plant into local newspapers, as well as some ideas for "showmanship":

Let's highlight a few of these. Here are two more instances of that Lombard black eye:

A prop "alarm clock" was suggested for the theater lobby:

Theaters could also order heralds and posters:

When unfolded, the pressbook measures 19 1/2" x 27". According to the seller, it "has a closed 1" tear at the upper middle closed 2" tear at the middle bottom and very tiny center tear, all due to the original folds. Otherwise, excellent."
This is a terrific piece of Lombard memorabilia, and bids for it begin at $19.99. Bidding closes at 11:41 a.m. (Eastern) Tuesday.
