carole lombard 2013 favorite classic movie actress tourney banner 01

The 2013 Favorite Classic Movie Actress Tourney began a few days ago, but for Carole Lombard fans, it started in earnest Wednesday evening, when voting began in the "Funny Ladies" division where Carole is top-seeded. So you'll see this and other banners at this site, urging people to vote on Lombard's behalf. Go to http://poohtiger-allgoodthings.blogspot.com/ to cast your ballot.

As of midnight (Eastern), Lombard has a 16-0 lead on eighth seed Margaret Dumont, the Marx Brothers' favorite dowager...or should that be victim?

In other division matches, fourth seed Jean Harlow leads another Margaret (fifth-seeded Sullavan), 12-3; things look good for another Jean (third seed Arthur), who's leading sixth-seeded "best friend" Una Merkel, 11-4; and number-two Myrna Loy is, like Lombard, also posting an early shutout, far ahead of number seven Thelma Todd, 17-0.

In the other division, "Singers/Dancers," top seed Shirley Temple is drubbing number eight Bebe Daniels, 12-2; fourth-seeded Eleanor Powell is doing likewise to fifth seed Luise Rainer, 13-2; number six Ruby Keeler so far is surprising third-seeded Mae West, 9-6; and seventh seed Joan Blondell is well ahead of number two Jeanette MacDonald, 14-1.
