Here's something that will delight virtually any Lombard fan -- a bunch of clips from her 1941 comedy "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," with Robert Montgomery and Gene Raymond. What makes it work is both the splendid editing and the music...the 1937 instrumental classic "Powerhouse" from the Raymond Scott Orchestra, a piece later frequently adapted for use in Warners animation (most recently in the 2003 "Looney Tunes: Back In Action"). Scott (1908-1994), who played a bandleader in Lombard's 1937 "Nothing Sacred," pioneered many avant-garde techniques, including synthesizers late in his life.
