More of Ms. Lombard from Mr. Glassner

carole lombard in name only 23b

Last September, we did an entry about six rare stills from the Carole Lombard film "In Name Only" available (http://carole-and-co.livejournal.com/444871.html). Now, the estate of Lester Glassner, which auctioned those images, is selling some other Lombard pics via eBay.

While all of these are reprints from the 1970s or '80s and not originals, the images are striking, and some of them are rare. All have minimum bids of $14.95, and as of this writing, only one of them has had a bid. Bidding ends Sunday, between 8:48 and 10:38 p.m. (Eastern).

To kick things off, here's p1202-231, from early 1932 -- not that uncommon a portrait, but nonetheless lovely:

Now, a pair of stills from Carole's first Paramount film "Safety In Numbers" (1930). The first is fairly common, the second is one I've never seen before:

For the first, visit http://www.ebay.com/itm/CAROLE-LOMBARD-PHOTO-SAFETY-IN-NUMBERS-RISQUE-LINGERIE-GLASSNER-COLLECTION-/261068283433?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc8e1de29; for the second, go to http://www.ebay.com/itm/CAROLE-LOMBARD-GLAMOUR-PHOTO-GLASSNER-COLLECTION-/261068278777?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc8e1cbf9.

Now three from the film she made before "Safety In Numbers," the 1930 Fox western "The Arizona Kid." As stated earlier, none of these are originals; thus there are no snipes, in fact, generally nothing on the back at all. This, however, was initially (and incorrectly) marked as "In Old Arizona," a pioneering Fox western from 1929; Warner Baxter, who won an Academy Award for his portrayal of the Cisco Kid in the earlier picture, semi-reprised his role in this one (here, he's known as the Arizona Kid):

Now, two other pictures of Baxter, Lombard and co-star Mona Maris. The first, with Carole sitting on a step, listening to Baxter serenade her, is fairly common and often seen in Lombard biographies...

...but chances are you've never seen this one, which shows Lombard leaning against a pillar:

The first pic, which already has a bid, is at http://www.ebay.com/itm/CAROLE-LOMBARD-PHOTO-ARIZONA-KID-WARNER-BAXTER-GLASSNER-COLLECTION-/261068273753?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc8e1b859. The less common second is at http://www.ebay.com/itm/CAROLE-LOMBARD-PHOTO-ARIZONA-KID-WARNER-BAXTER-GLASSNER-COLLECTION-/261068267292?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc8e19f1c.

Oh, and that image of Lombard sitting? We've cropped it to serve as this week's LiveJournal header.
