The real thing, baby

Acquiring an authentic autograph of Carole Lombard's can be a daunting task. You want to make sure it's genuine, since it's almost certainly going to cost a significant sum.

Over the years, we at "Carole & Co." have alerted people about Lombard autograph scams (http://carole-and-co.livejournal.com/55847.html, http://carole-and-co.livejournal.com/342123.html, http://carole-and-co.livejournal.com/435147.html), so whenever we come across an autograph of hers, we check the expert on the topic, Carole Sampeck of The Lombard Archive, in order to validate it.

Last night, we forwarded this to her, with the subject header "real?":

Her response: "Real? Yep.
:-)"

The item as a whole looks like this, with an 8" x 10" photo added in a 16" x 20" frame:

You can buy it straight up for $329 (according to the seller, "Try to find one of these for under $500"), or you can make an offer. The sale deadline is 6:37 p.m. (Eastern) next Tuesday; if interested or curious, go to http://www.ebay.com/itm/CAROLE-LOMBARD-AUTOGRAPH-/150694579037?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item231618cb5d.

Oh, and the photo at the top, with Lombard in a white swimsuit from 1935 (it's Paramount p1202-1231), is being auctioned elsewhere at eBay. The seller mentions there's a "typed blurb mentioning her upcoming appearance in 'Hands Across The Table'"; while it isn't shown there, it's previously been seen here:

Bids on this original 8" x 10" begin at $149.95, with bidding scheduled to end at 11:15 p.m. (Eastern) next Tuesday. For more information, visit http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Carole-Lombard-35-SEXY-SWIMSUIT-PINUP-/380380560617?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item589072bce9.
