Slide, and 'Rumba' (a 'True Confession')

"Rumba," released in 1935, was Paramount's attempt to make lightning strike twice by teaming Carole Lombard and George Raft in a dance picture, a year after their success in "Bolero." It simply wasn't as interesting a film. (One reason might be that the Code was now more strictly enforced than when "Bolero" was made, thus depriving viewers of seeing Carole once again dance in lingerie and stockings.)

Whatever, "Rumba" also marked the final time Paramount treated Lombard as an all-purpose star; her final four films for the studio were expressly vehicles for the talent Columbia had revealed in movies such as her 1934 breakthrough, "Twentieth Century" (and in all four, her leading man would be Fred MacMurray).

As was the case for many of her movies, one of the ways used to promote "Rumba" was through glass slides that complemented or supplanted film trailers. These slides would be projected onto a screen to promote upcoming features, and dates for specific showings could also be listed.

A glass slide for "Rumba" is now available at eBay:

It's listed in good condition overall and measures 3 5/16" square. Bids begin at $5 (no bids have been made as of this writing), with bids closing at 2:27 p.m. (Eastern) on Nov. 11. For those of you who collect glass slides, a growing segment of classic movie memorabilia, this might be worth picking up. The same seller has a glass slide of what would be Carole's final film at Paramount, "True Confession" from late 1937:

This is the second glass slide I've seen for this movie (the other one was in color and had a different design). It's the same size as its "Rumba" counterpart, though in slightly better condition (very good); bids for it also begin at $5, though bids close at 4:40 p.m. (Eastern) Nov. 11.
