Lombard on YouTube

YouTube, which has affected American society to the point where it's already wielding influence in the 2008 presidential campaign, has also become an intriguing point of reference for Carole Lombard fans.

Several dozen Lombard-related YouTube videos can be found at the site. A few have footage of visits to the site of her airplane crash in Nevada. Some are clips from films in the public domain such as "My Man Godfrey," while others are Lombard tributes, compiled from brief excerpts from her movies, a number of her countless still photographs, or a blending of both. Many are set to music -- either contemporary songs or Lombard-era swing (big bands used include those of Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey). The creativity is amazing.

The overriding theme is love and admiration, and I like to think somewhere, Carole is thrilled that nearly two-thirds of a century after she left us, she is still beloved and fondly remembered.

I can't begin to recommend any particular video, because it wouldn't be fair to the others. Just go to www.youtube.com, type in "Carole Lombard" and see for yourself.
