I'm back from Washington, D.C. (where Carole Lombard and Clark Gable are pictured above), and what do I see when glancing at the eBay list of Lombard memorabilia items? Lots, and lots, of this:
Cards containing a swatch of a Lombard dress, this time offered by a firm named Panini America (does that have something to do with bread?) as part of its "Matinee Legends" series, along the lines of similar cards in recent years.
Apparently, 499 such cards with parts of Carole's clothing were issued on Wednesday. There are 20 such legends in the checklist, including fellow Hoosier James Dean, '30s cohorts Ginger Rogers, Bette Davis and Jean Harlow, and others. Here's Ginger's card underneath Carole's:
There are too many being offered to focus on one, so my suggestion is to go to http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trkparms=65%253A10%257C66%253A2%257C39%253A1&rt=nc&_nkw=Carole+Lombard&_ipg=200&_sc=1&_sop=10&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1514, and search for the one that best suits your fancy. (At last check, there were 22 such cards up for auction, and none had collected more than one bid as of this writing.)
