Carole and friends

Over the years, Carole Lombard made many friends in the entertainment industry. Here are a few of them:

From Carole's famed 1935 party, here's Paramount stablemate Marlene Dietrich, one of the few ladies in Hollywood whose legs could rival Lombard's (but who, like Carole, nonetheless often wore slacks).

Here she is with Cary Grant, along with Groucho and Chico Marx. This photo was taken during an episode of "The Circle" on NBC (see "Carole on the radio, part 1" for more information on this fascinating failure).

Carole's pictured with famed fashion photographer Cecil Beaton in March 1931.

Carole's friendship with other celebrities didn't stop when her relationship with Clark Gable began. Here they are at a premiere with Tyrone Power...

...in costume at San Simeon, with Gable and Walter Winchell switching places...

...and with Jack Benny. Had Carole lived, she probably would have appeared on his top-rated show to promote their new film, "To Be Or Not To Be."
