No, this isn't a continuation of Sunday's TV thread. Nor is it a salute to the Philadelphia Phillies for their remarkable comeback to win the National League East, or an acknowledgement that the Los Angeles Kings opened the National Hockey League season in London (England, not Ontario) over the weekend by splitting two games against their archrivals, the defending Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks.
What ties the pictures above is that for Barbara Feldon, Mitch Williams and Wayne Gretzky, the number "99" played an important part in their lives. And this Saturday, Oct. 6, will be the 99th anniversary of Carole Lombard's birth.
We want to celebrate it, so here's our plan -- put together a list of 99 reasons why we love Lombard. I'll provide plenty, but I want input from you.
Here's what you have to do: List a few reasons why you love Carole Lombard, and e-mail them to VPaterno@aol.com. Do not list them as replies to this entry; that way, we can make the entire list a surprise when it's announced on Saturday.
Think about why you're a Lombard fan, what qualities or achievements attracted you to her. Once you come up with a few, reply to the e-mail address above. Let's make this a fitting salute to Carole.
I eagerly await your responses.
