The above portrait of Carole Lombard is from Hollywood magazine of October 1932, and is from artist/photographer Edwin Bower Hesser. Quite stunning.
I haven't read the stories inside, but one of the cover headlines -- "Jean Harlow's Wedding" -- indicates this probably hit newsstands at just about when her husband, Paul Bern, was found dead under circumstances that have never entirely been explained. Not the best of times to review a wedding that had taken place earlier that summer.
That alone makes the issue interesting, but there are also articles on Joan Crawford vs. Greta Garbo, Gary Cooper and Joan Bennett. Joan's older sister Constance is among stars featured modeling fashions, along with Harlow, Lyda Roberti (then lighting up the screen in "Million Dollar Legs") and some newcomer named Bette Davis.
You have until 10:45 p.m. (Eastern) tonight to bid for this; bidding begins at $94.95 (no bids have been placed as of this writing). If interested, go to http://cgi.ebay.com/HOLLYWOOD-10-32-Carole-Lombard-HESSER-COLOR-Cover_W0QQitemZ350336964731QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMagazines?hash=item5191b5d87b.
