There's 'Safety In' these original 'Numbers'

That's Carole Lombard, second from left at top, in "Safety In Numbers," her Paramount debut in the spring of 1930. Carole impressed enough officials at the studio to receive a seven-year contract, a significant bounce-back from her questionable dismissal from Pathe the previous fall.

Paramount's publicity machine went to work on this new film and new actress -- and that included its far-flung international division. We have proof.

This is 1249-8, issued by Paramount foreign publicity. Another photo, 1249-48, includes a snipe in what looks to be Spanish:

Each photo has an opening bid of $49.99; the auction on 1249-8 ends at 8:09 p.m. (Eastern) Wednesday, while 1249-48 ends one minute later.
