Off the shoulder from Otto

This oh-so-sexy portrait of Carole Lombard baring her shoulder was taken by Paramount's Otto Dyar and ran in the April 1931 issue of The New Movie Magazine. We ran a piece about this issue, with Kay Francis on the cover, four years ago this month (

Who's the "comet girl"? None other than Constance Bennett, a nickname that never quite took (a la Lombard's tag as the "orchid lady").

Now it's back at auction, but a warning: The issue is in poor condition, according to the seller, who notes pages 43 to 66 "are 1/2 torn out." (Thankfully, the Lombard pic is on page 82.) You can see the issue online in its entirety by visiting, which gives you one-page, two-page and thumbnail options.

This "low-grade bargain copy" has an opening bid of $29.50, with the auction ending at 8:19 p.m. (Eastern) Sunday. If interested, go to
