Time's running out on the Smiths...

...so slide on over.

What am I talking about? For one thing, a glass slide, something many theaters used in lieu of trailers to promote upcoming films during the Golden Age (http://community.livejournal.com/carole_and_co/48696.html). For another, this glass slide happens to be for Lombard's next-to-last film, "Mr. & Mrs. Smith."

You want to see the slide in question? Okay, here it is:

And how is time "running out"? Well, the item is available on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/glass-lantern-slide-movie-Carole-Lombard-Mr-Mrs-Smith_W0QQitemZ130282340675QQcmdZViewItemQQptZArt_Photo_Images?hash=item130282340675&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318#ebayphotohosting), but bidding closes at 6:14 p.m. (Eastern) -- which means as of this writing, you have a little less than 17 hours to bid. Surprisingly, at the time I wrote this, no bids had been placed, even though the starting bid level is a mere $9.99.

Remember, this is for a Carole Lombard film co-starring Robert Montgomery and directed by Alfred Hitchcock (his only out-and-out comedy). All three of those people have many devoted fans who collect memorabilia of their favorites. I suppose there really isn't a substantial market yet for glass slides as collectibles.
