A piece of memorabilia from one of Carole Lombard's lesser-seen features is now available. It's from the 1931 film "I Take This Woman" which, despite the presence of Lombard and fellow legend Gary Cooper, was almost lost (http://community.livejournal.com/carole_and_co/45444.html). The type of memorabilia? A nearly forgotten promotional tool called a glass slide (http://community.livejournal.com/carole_and_co/48696.html).
Here's what the slide for "I Take This Woman" looks like, first as it would be seen on screen, second the slide itself:
Note the date it was shown -- "Friday, Jan. 22." Since "I Take This Woman" was released on June 27, 1931, this must have come late in its run, probably at some theater in the hinterlands. (Jan. 22 fell on a Friday in 1932.)
The item is up for auction at eBay, and as of this writing you still have seven days in which to make a bid (it closes April 21). And while two bids have already been made, the high bid is only $2.75. It'll likely go considerably higher -- just how high remains to be seen. Interested?
