The channel publishes a magazine, Now Playing, that spotlights its schedule and has features on classic Hollywood. And, to no one's surprise, Lombard is on the cover of the October issue:
Nice photo, even if it is from the lackluster "Fools For Scandal," a film the magazine invites its readers to watch. (Let us hope that for most of them, it's not the first Lombard film they've seen -- because if it is, chances are that for some of them, it might also be the last.)
There's a single-copy price in the lower left-hand corner, indicating Now Playing is available on newsstands and such...but if it is, only a handful stock it. I don't think I've ever seen it in the magazine section of any bookstore chain, at least not the major national ones.
I'd love to tell you what's inside, but unfortunately, I only found the cover online. If any of you have received a copy, fill us in as to what we can expect.
And when October rolls around, TCM will probably have a Lombard-related promo or two -- but whom will be shown discussing Carole? Karl Malden's still around, but the Lombard film he appeared in, "They Knew What They Wanted," isn't on the schedule. Same thing with Shirley Temple and "Now And Forever." Perhaps TCM has some surprise up its sleeve. Let's hope it's worth the wait.
