Meet Miss Philbrooke

"The Racketeer," released in the fall of 1929, was the third and final all-talkie Carole Lombard made for Pathe Pictures before she and good friend Diane Ellis were dismissed from the studio amid circumstances still never entirely explained. Lombard (shown above with lead Robert Armstrong and Jeanette Loff) portrayed Rhoda Philbrooke, who marries Armstrong to aid the career of her musician boyfriend. The single-weight glossy is 8" x 10". As of this writing, three bids have been made on it, topping at $16.50. The auction ends at 9:26 p.m. (Eastern) Nov. 26, so bidding could go up quite a bit on this. Interested?
