Set sail with Lombard

Yesterday, we showed a number of poolside images of Carole Lombard. We'll continue our water theme today, if only to cool things off; here in the Washington, D.C., area, the heat index rose into triple digits Sunday, with more of the same expected today. However, this time the theme is nautical.

Sometime in 1933 or '34, someone at Paramount got the idea of taking Lombard seaside, wearing a sailor outfit, for a ship-shape photo session. We've run a few of these photos before, but this is the first time we've assembled them all into one grouping.

Some of them feature Carole in a full-fledged sailor's outfit, complete with trousers. In others, she shows off those lovely Lombard legs. In both cases, they're wonderfully alluring -- and if Carole was part of the crew, who'd want to mutiny?
