All sorts of stills have surfaced from Carole Lombard's most pivotal movie, "Twentieth Century," but I've never come across this one before, and chances are you haven't, either:
John Barrymore's Oscar Jaffe -- a once-successful Broadway impresario now reduced to wearing disguises to avoid police and creditors -- pleads with Lombard's Lily Garland (nee Mildred Plotka) to star in his new stage production. But Garland, the one-time lingerie salesgirl Jaffe built into a star before she went Hollywood (below), apparently wants nothing to do with her one-time lover.
The Barrymore-Lombard pic is splendid, brilliantly capturing Oscar's desperation and Lily's boredom in this seminal screwball comedy. The photo is 8" x 10" -- whether it's vintage or a reprint, I can't say -- but I do know that as of this writing, one bid has been made on it, for $7.99, and that bidding will conclude at 4:06 p.m. (Eastern) on Friday.
