Stocking up on pics, as the villain gets the girl

Today's photographs of Carole Lombard available through eBay are from early in her career. One's a hitherto unseen still from her first all-talkie, the other a fairly common shot, but with a new snipe.
We'll start with the still, from 1929's "High Voltage":
That's Carole, apparently changing her stockings, with Owen Moore, part of a group of bus travelers who have to spend time in an abandoned cabin. This photo, from Culver Pictures, found its way to the files of Look magazine, which didn't begin publishing until early 1937.
As you might guess by now, it's from Hollywood Paper, which has made all sorts of Lombard rarities available of late. It's listed in "good+" condition, if you're particular about such things. You can buy it outright for $49.95, or choose the bidding option, beginning at $44.95. Bids would then close at 10:34 p.m. (Eastern) next Friday. Curious? Culver Pictures was located at 51 East 42nd Street in Manhattan. A few blocks east at 220 East 42nd, in what was then the home of the New York Daily News, was the headquarters of Acme Newspictures (though I'm not sure whether it was owned by the Daily News or its one-time corporate parent, the Chicago Tribune). Anyway, in mid-1931, Acme released this photo:

Note that Powell is described as a "suave villain," even though he had made several Philo Vance films by 1931. While he continued to play the occasional cad (e.g. "Jewel Robbery"), he eventually let the likes of Warren William fill those shoes, particularly after Powell moved to MGM (and found his ideal partner in Myrna Loy). Anyway, he got this heroine...for a little more than two years.
