Here's an interesting discovery -- a previously unseen Carole Lombard p1202 portrait that was used as a fan magazine cover. Or so we think. (We'll explain shortly.) First, the photo, p1202-681:
A stunning shot of Carole mulling things over while showing off her polished nails and jeweled left hand and arm. How do we know it was used as a cover? There's information on the back...

The handwriting (presumably from an editor) reads,
Carole Lombard --
Paramount Star
whose latest picture is
"Rhumba" (sic) -- with George Raft
This is my choice for
a cover -- How is this
for sex and glamour?
Apparently it was deemed OK, because two markings underneath indicate it was used for the cover in February 1935. (The photo itself is from 1934.)
Beyond that, though, we can't go any further. The magazine was named Hollywood Mirror, and I've never seen any of its covers, much less the one with Lombard. We know it existed, because it was listed in the "Reviewing The Fan Mags" column of the May 3, 1934 Hollywood Reporter, whose coverage of it makes it appear to be somewhat different from its competitors:

Apparently the magazine published at least through February 1935, though it may not have existed very much longer. It would be interesting to see whether the covers using photographs, Lombard's included, were touched up to give them a "color" appearance (as was invariably the case with fan magazines at the time) or remained in their original black and white. The story of the Hollywood Mirror begs for more research.
Getting back to the photo, this is another delightful item from Hollywood Paper, an 8" x 10" in very good condition. You can buy it straight up for $139.95 or make a bid, beginning at $119.95; under that format, bids would end at 10:36 p.m. (Eastern) on Sunday.
