At home with 'Supernatural' 'Virtue'

Those Hollywood Paper people are at it again, bringing forth a few new -- and rare -- vintage Carole Lombard pictures; some even have snipes, adding to their allure. We'll start with Paramount p1202-714, among several pics taken of Carole at her new Hollywood Boulevard showplace in April 1934:

Let's provide a closeup of the snipe, adding two photos of the bed in question:

Now that you have the precise information, go at it, colorizers.

Slightly more than a year before Lombard moved into her house, she had made her lone foray into horror, "Supernatural." For publicity, she posed for an Irving Lippman photo with co-star and fellow Paramount player Randolph Scott:

"Look -- up in the sky! It's a bird...it's a plane...it's -- no, it couldn't be a super-powered being from another planet; he hasn't been invented yet."

Let's retreat another year into the past, to 1932, for Lombard's first loan-out to Columbia, "Virtue." Here, clad in a sheer blouse, she partakes of a cigarette -- something I doubt a contemporary Carole would do. (Of course, in "Virtue," Lombard portrayed a streetwalker. Was her character enjoying a smoke after turning a trick?) There's no snipe here, and no really important information, but we'll show you the back anyway:

These photos don't come cheaply, as you might guess. The "Virtue" portrait is available for $339.95; to purchase, or find out more, go to http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUPER-SEXY-CAROLE-LOMBARD-SMOKING-A-CIGARETTE-IN-A-SHEER-BLOUSE-1932-VIRTUE-/320888827756?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab676ef6c.

The other two can be bid on or bought straight up. The one of Carole at home has a minimum bid price of $199.95, with bidding slated to end at 10:36 p.m. (Eastern) Saturday, or strike first by buying it for $224.95. All the info is at http://www.ebay.com/itm/CAROLE-LOMBARD-TRIPLE-MIRROR-VIEW-PHOTO-HER-ELEGANT-HOME-1934-/320888533597?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab672725d. The portrait of Lombard and Scott from "Supernatural" comes comparatively cheaply, as you can buy it for $59.95 or make a bid starting at $49.95, in which case bids will end at 10:32 p.m. Saturday. Visit http://www.ebay.com/itm/CAROLE-LOMBARD-RANDOLPH-SCOTT-EXC-COND-1933-PHOTO-SUPERNATURAL-/180862926026?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a1c453cca to bid, buy or check it out.

If all those prices seem a bit out of your league, there's an alternative. Another seller is offering a vintage Lombard pic, specifically p1202-125 from 1931:

The seller admits this 8" x 10" has some toning and yellowing and minor stains at the bottom, but it's still in good shape for something more than eight decades old. The opening bid is $9.99, and bids end at 8:01 p.m. (Eastern) Saturday. The Lippman photo

Whatever happened to Randolph Scott, anyway?

Re: The Lippman photo

Go to Staunton and ask the Statlers.
