Anyone care to venture a guess as to the when and where of this candid snapshot of Carole Lombard?

I'm guessing it to have been taken on the Paramount lot sometime in the mid-1930s, though I could be wrong. Interesting to see Lombard wearing gloves, too.

It's a 3" x 5" photo, likely taken by a fan or non-professional, and it's being auctioned at eBay. It's in good condition, and one bid has been made already, for $19.99. The sale price may soar, as the auction doesn't end until 1:28 p.m. (Eastern) next Tuesday.

dating of the picture

The car she's standing next to is newer, say late 30's, such fenders in the rear wouldn't be on cars of 1935. I'd say maybe 38? Or later? Roof line looks like late 30's early 40's. Stars wouldn't drive older cars. Newer luxury ones. I'm really into old cars. Looks like her hair style, makeup & clothes are more in keeping with the date she was married--around 39. Just my 2 cents. Like your website!

Re: dating of the picture

If that's the case, and I have no cause to doubt you, the photo was probably taken at Selznick International in late 1938, about the time she was working on "Made For Each Other." (The background looks a bit like other photos I've seen of Carole on that lot, though Paramount's soundstages have a similar look, too.)
